Why should I spay or neuter my pet?

1. There simply aren’t enough homes for all of the dogs and cats born each year.
2. Intact pets can develop behavioral and medical problems associated with the hormones made by their reproductive organs. Certain cancers, infections, hernias, and risky, undesirable behaviors have been associated with being intact. Spaying and neutering can prevent many of these problems.

What actually happens to my pet during a spay or neuter procedure?

Your pet is placed under general anesthesia, and the reproductive organs (ovaries and uterus for females and testicles for males) are surgically removed.

When is the right time to have my pet spayed or neutered?

Many pets are ready to have this procedure around 6 to 8 months of age. Recent studies suggest delaying these procedures for some breeds may have lifelong medical benefits. Postponing spay and neuter procedures can significantly impact you and your pet.
